This extract comes from a study that was realized in Crete from 1948 to 1957, a period when the traditional Cretan diet hadn’t been influenced by foreign factors. During this same period Dr. Ancel Keys started a wide scale study which involved people from many countries around the world. It was the renowned “Study of the Seven Countries.’’
Among the examined areas was Crete. The results were amazing and many times confirmed by later studies and even by the World Health Organization. The healthiest people in the world lived in Crete! Heart problems were almost unheard of and cancers were rare. The reasons of course were not genetic and this amazing discovery was attributed to the Cretan diet. A lot of olive oil, vegetables, fruit, legumes and bread, mainly paximadi, were consumed by the Cretans on a daily basis.
Today’s society has turned to healthier models. In such a society Crete can offer her experience, her products, her people’s lifestyle and her nutritional culture.
